Why do an internship or volunteering project abroad?
If this is your first time you are attempting to travel abroad then you have probably asked yourself this question a million times, why should I do an internship abroad, let alone why should I intern or volunteer in Cape Town or Stellenbosch? Well there are many reasons why students choose to intern in Cape Town and Stellenbosch. Below we have listed four;
The number one reason is to have fun! Often times students who travel to Cape Town and Stellenbosch have the time of their lives, they meet amazing people who become lifelong friends, they get to engage in various cool outdoor activities such as hiking, camping and river rafting, they go surfing in Muizenberg, kite surfing in Blouberg strand, wine tasting in Stellenbosch and whale watching in Hermanus. Students also tend to visit the beautiful beaches that surround Cape Town and Stellenbosch. Furthermore, nightlife in Cape Town and Stellenbosch is absolutely amazing. Cape Town and Stellenbosch is filled with various pubs and clubs where students often hangout just to unwind, dance the night away or simply just to enjoy the music.
The second reason is experience! People who go abroad often learn a lot during their abroad experience. They get to learn about different cultures, they learn how to acclimate to their new surroundings, learn practical occupational skills but more importantly they get to learn more about themselves.
The third reason international students tend to study abroad is to learn a language. In South Africa there are eleven official languages some of the more widely spoken languages in South Africa is Zulu, isiXhosa, Afrikaans and English. It should be noted, that most companies conduct business in English, this experience has been noted to improve and individuals business English which can enhance an individual’s personal value. Although, almost every South African can understand and speak English, it should be noted that Cape Town and Stellenbosch and their surrounding suburbs mainly consist of Afrikaans speaking people. Students have been known to grasp the basic knowledge and understanding of Afrikaans and even isiXhosa during their stay. All these different kind of cultures and languages will help students from abroad to learn from each other and to cooperate in a different environment. Which is a highly appreciated skill by employers.
The fourth reason is to be able to travel while your studying and escape from your academic routine. Even though an internship can be hard work, there will defiantly be enough time to experience this amazing city and have fun doing great things besides your daily job. Depending on your wishes we make sure you live in a nice house together with other international students so you can do exciting things together after work and in the weekends.
